The Design and Technology Faculty was recently refurbished and comprises of two fully equipped wood workshops; a combined metal and plastics workshop; a specialist boatbuilding workshop; three design studios and a state-of-the-art CAD/CAM suite which feature 3D printers; CNC Router and Laser Cutter. Students receive one period of Design and Technology in S1 and S2 and follow a BGE course that introduces and develops the skills required for all certificated courses in the Senior School. These skills cover disciplines such as 3D CAD modelling, woodworking, metal working and plastic work; desktop publishing; manual sketching and rendering. At the end of S2 pupils choose which subject(s) they wish to continue with into S3: Design & Manufacture; Graphic Communication; Practical Woodworking. The S3 courses offers students the opportunity to specialise in the area(s) of interest to further refine the skills required for entry to National 4/5 in S4.
We currently offer the following National courses:
National 4/5 : Graphic Communication, Practical Woodwork.
National 5 : Design & Manufacture.
Higher : Graphic Communication, Design and Manufacture.
Wider Achievement : LEGO Robotics; Boatbuilding.
Faculty Extra-Curricular Opportunities:
Supported Study is offered throughout the week for all Senior Subjects. If you are unable to attend one of our sessions please speak to your Teacher to see if we can organise another time that is suitable.
